57 Round-of-64 Bouts Take Place During Busto Arsizio’s Day 2

Action at the Boxing Road to Paris 1st World Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy, continued today with 57 bouts scheduled for Day 2.

During today’s sessions, athletes competed in the Round of 64 of the Women’s 54kg, Men’s 57kg, and Men’s 80kg weight classes.

The morning session kicked off with the Women’s 54kg weight category, where Romane Moulaï of France was the first winner of the day after a fierce battle against Jennifer Lehane of Ireland. The French boxer clinched a 3:2 split decision win. Meanwhile, on ring B, Johana Carolina Gomez Landaeta of Venezuela landed powerful blows to her opponent from Slovakia, Bibiana Lovasova, that forced the referee to stop the contest in the third round at 2:13. Zeynab Rahimova (AZE) also advanced in the brackets after a 4:1 points win against Fatma Zohra Abdelkader Hadjala (ALG). Puerto Rico’s Angelyris Lopez threw plenty of punches at today’s rival Coletivi Dechey Yetongnon (TOG) to gain maximum points, winning her bout 5-0.

Moving forward in the tournament, in the Men’s 57kg event, 2023 World Champion Sabyrkhan Makhmud (KAZ) confirmed his dominance, securing a 5-0 unanimous decision victory. With the same scoreline, Jose Felipe of Guatemala convinced all the judges with his boxing skills and determination, earning victory over Anthony Joseph (TTO) with a full scorecard. In a fierce ring battle, Artur Bazeyan (ARM) left no chances for Seifeddine Letaief (SUI) as he outscored the Swiss opponent with a sharp 5:0 victory. Mohammad Abu Jajeh (JOR) lost via a 3:2 decision after a hard-fought match against Leandro Gonzalez Landazury of Colombia. Jaroslaw Iwanow (POL) also made his mark today, securing a convincing 5:0 decision win over Greece’s Alexei Lagkazasvili, earning the favor of all the judges. Right after, there was another unanimous decision win: Jaeyong Shin (KOR) ran out a comfortable 5:0 winner over Allan Morozov (EST). Umid Rustamov (AZE) cleared his bout against Nawwaf Alzahmi (UAE) in less than 3 minutes, overwhelming him before the referee stopped the contest at 1:48 in Round 1. The judges declared Tryagain Ndevelo (NAM) as the winner, 3:2 on split decision in his bout against Batuhan Ciftci of Turkey.

In the Men’s 80kg class, Ireland’s Kelyn Cassidy and Andrej Csemez (SVK) both showcased their superiority by winning with a unanimous decision of 5:0 respectively against Michail Tsamalidis (GRE) and Andrei Chiriacov (MDA). Noa Hadjit (BEL) displayed remarkable skills and secured a unanimous decision victory over Sulaiman Aslami (AFG). In the hope of securing a place at Paris 2024, Rafayel Hovhannisyan (ARM) and Jinjea Kim (KOR) gave their best to advance in the tournament, claiming both a maximum points victory. Prewa Padabadi (TOG) eased past Carlos Gongora of Ecuador in their bout as the referee had to stop the contest in Round 1. The 2023 World Amateur Champion Nurbek Oralbay (KAZ) did not waste his opportunity, striking Cedrick Belony-Duliepre (HAI) towards the end to earn maximum points and a 5-0 win in the first round. Kaan Aykutsun (TUR) executed some powerful blows to get a unanimous decision victory over Charles Antonio Cox (BAR). Aliaksei Alfiorau (AIN) and Paul Andrei Aradoaie (ROU) left everyone in awe with two exceptional performances, sealing a unanimous 5:0 decision victory over their opponents, Shabbos Negmatulloev (TJK), and Yusufu Nkobeza (UGA). Jonathan Tetteh (GHA) handed a walkover win to his opponent Kevin Boakye Schumann of Germany who advanced in the brackets. Eldric Sella from the Boxing Refugee Team could not make it to the next round as he met a tough opponent: USA’s Robby Gonzales, whose impressive punching left no chances for Sella. Weerapon Jongjoho of Thailand was another dominant winner as he outclassed Robertas Liorancas (LTU), securing a convincing victory with a unanimous decision of 5:0. In the last bout of the morning session, Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu (KGZ) and Georgii Gutsaev (GEO) jumped into the ring. The boxer from Kirghizistan demonstrated his dominance in the match, sealing a 5:0 win.

At the evening session, Poland’s Sandra Drabik stunned Nepal’s Anjani Teli in the women’s 54kg category, winning with a sharp 5:0 score to advance in the tournament and toward a coveted Paris 2024 Olympic quota place. In the same category, Islem Ferchichi from Tunisia outscored Emma Jokiaho from Finland. Advancing to the Round of 32 with them, Chile’s Denisse Bravo beat Armenia’s Tatevik Khachatryan 5:0, and Estefani Almanzar De Leon (DOM) outpowered Yin Yin Winnie Au (HKG), winning her bout by RSC.

Moving on to the Men’s 57kg weight category, the tournament saw a great show of power and speed put up by Andrey Bonilla, Mexico, in his Round of 64 bout against Murat Yildirim (GER). Dodging and hitting, he led round 2 and 3 gaining a 4:1 win to advance in the tournament. In the same weight category, Luiz Oliveira (BRA) beat Seiitbek Uulu Munarbek (KGZ) on points, and Artyush Gomtsyan (GEO) outscored Wasim Abusal (PLE) via a unanimous decision.

Italy’s hopeful, Francesco Iozia, did not make it through, losing to Shukur Ovezov (TKM) by split decision.

Completing the Men’s 57kg Round of 32 lineup, Owain Harris-Allan (GBR) outdid Jose Luis De Lo Santos Feliz (DOM) via a split decision, and Oleh Chuliacheiev (UKR) outdid Sergio Rodrigues (POR) also via a split decision. At the same time, Daniyal Shahbakhsh (IRI), Morocco’s Soulaimane Samghouli, Alex Mukuka (NZL), Jude Gallagher (IRL) all won their respective bouts by unanimous decision.

Back to the Men’s 80kg weight class, In a show of prowess and sheer power, Yusuf Lucasi Changalawe (TAN) stunned his opponent Diego Pereira (VEN) amid round 1 in the Men’s 80kg category, knocking him down twice, and forcing the referee to stop the contest. Moments later, Osaro Lucky Aimufua (AUT) did the same against Mohamed Assaghir (MAR), moving on in the tournament’s brackets.

In the following bouts, Norway’s Mindaugas Gedminas (NOR) beat Argentina’s Abraham Gabriel Buonarrigo by 4 to 1 points, Juan Ortiz (COL) beat Gafurova Gazimagomed Jalidov Schami (ESP) 3 to 1 points, Nuryagdy Nuryagdyyev (TKM) won 3:2 against Nikita Nystedt (FIN) and Taj Kagho (NZL) outscored Jeremiah Thomas (TTO) 4 to 1 points. Joining them in the Round of 32 will be Pylyp Akilov (HUN), Turabek Khabibullaev (UZB), Meysam Gheshlaghi (IRI), Rafal Perczynski (POL), Hector Aguirre (MEX), Petar Marcic (MNE), Yojerlin Cesar (FRA), and Kristiyan Nikolov (BUL) who all won their respective bouts.
