On the third day of the 1st World Qualification Tournament at the E-Work Arena in Busto Arsizio, 75 intense bouts are scheduled to take place across three weight divisions: Women’s 60 kg, Men’s 63.5 kg, and Men’s 71 kg.
In the morning session, RIMMA VOLOSSENKO (KAZ) and AYAKA TAGUCHI (JPN) didn’t have trouble overcoming their respective opponents, securing sharp 5:0 wins. CAMILA PAOLA PINEIRO MUINO (URU) prevailed over ANNA SOROKINA (LAT) 4-1 in the following bout. LOREDANA ANDREEA MARIN (ROU) swiftly cleared her round of 16 bout against Anatu MOHAMMED (GHA) in less than 3 minutes, overwhelming her before the referee stopped the contest at 1:18. Guadalupe SOLIS (MEX) secured a patient and defensive 4-1 split decision win against Elida KOCHARYAN (ARM).
In another match, Agnes ALEXIUSSON (SWE) and Alessia MESIANO (ITA) engaged in a thrilling battle. Although Alexiusson initially dominated, Mesiano found her rhythm and counterattacked, winning the first round and the second round with a thin margin. Both boxers showcased impressive punching and boxing skills, but Mesiano ultimately secured victory via a 4:1 split decision win after claiming the third round.
Advancing in the same weight category were Hanna OKHREI (UKR), OH YEONJI (KOR), Anna Julia JENNI (SUI), Chelsey HEIJNEN (NED), TARA BOHATJUK (BIH), Aslahan Sezgin MEHMEDOVA (BUL), Felicitas Maria GANGLBAUER (GER), RAYKHONA KODIROVA (UZB), Donjeta SADIKU (KOS), and CHRISTINA LINARDATOU (GRE).
In the Men’s 63.5kg category, the only Monégasque professional boxer in history, Hugo MICALLEF, engaged in a fierce battle against Turkish boxer MIZAN AYKOL. While MICALLEF started aggressively, causing a standing count to his opponent in the first round, AYKOL took control in the second round, returning the standing count and leading the bout. Despite MICALLEF’s impressive display of punches in the third round, AYKOL secured a 4-1 split decision victory.
In the Men’s 71 kg event, team Brazil celebrated a commanding 5:0 victory for WANDERSON DE OLIVEIRA (BRA), one of the most talented boxers in the team who is yet to qualify.
Ireland’s Aidan WALSH defeated HUSAIN ALKANDARI (UAE) in less than one round. The Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist showcased his supremacy, winning the bout convincingly and forcing the referee to stop the contest at 2:42.
Italy saw another success as home favorite Salvatore CAVALLARO outscored ISMAEL KARRAR HAYDER ISMAEL (IRQ). The 2023 European Games bronze medalist displayed sensational combinations, targeting his opponent and winning the bout 5-0 via unanimous decision.
