The Paris 2024 Olympic Boxing Tournament’s Day 3 continued this afternoon with the second session of the day starting at 15:30 (CET) at the North Paris Arena (NPA).
Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Kellie HARRINGTON of Ireland produced an excellent performance, claiming a commanding 5:0 victory over Alessia MESIANO (ITA) in their Women’s 60kg round-of-16 bout.
In the following match, the audience at NPA cheered for local hero Sofiane OUMIHA (FRA), who took center stage in his Men’s 63.5kg weight division. OUMIHA secured a comfortable 5:0 win against Jordan’s Obada ALKASBEH.
In the same weight category, Cuba’s Erislandy ALVAREZ BORGES (CUB) caused a significant upset by defeating Jugurtha AIT BEKKA (ALG) with a 5:0 win, as all five judges awarded him every round. Advancing in the brackets, ALVAREZ BORGES will face 2023 Asian Games bronze medallist Bunjong SINSIRI of Thailand, who outclassed Jesus Nazaret COVA ROMERO of Venezuela via a unanimous 5:0 decision.
In the Men’s +92kg division, the 26-year-old Teremoana TEREMOANA (AUS), standing 1.98 meters tall, proved too strong for Ukrainian Dmytro LOVCHYNSKYI. The 2023 Pacific Games gold medallist from Australia cleared his bout in less than three minutes, flooring his rival for a knockout. TEREMOANA will face a formidable opponent in his next match: Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Bakhodir JALOLOV (UZB). This incredible showdown is scheduled for Friday, 2 August, with both boxers aiming for gold at Paris 2024.
Today, the boxer from Uzbekistan and two-time Olympian left no chances for his rival, Omar SHIHA (NOR). JALOLOV went on the offensive, delivering impactful blows that secured him a sharp 5:0 win.
Team France and the crowd at the North Paris Arena celebrated another success today as Djamili-Dini ABOUDOU MOINDZE (FRA) claimed victory on home soil against Mourad KADI of Algeria with a 4:1 decision.
