DAY 4 AFTERNOON SESSION: 22 BOUTS CONTESTED AT THE E-WORK ARENA

Men’s 51kg

Eight bouts unfolded in one of the most competitive weight categories among men, with only 16 boxers scheduled to compete in this category at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024, and one-third of the quota places at stake in Busto Arsizio.

The first to take center stage was the Rio 2016 silver medalist, Yuberjen Herney MARTINEZ RIVAS (COL), who faced a formidable opponent in Canada’s Justin John Sitchon PARINA. Both boxers displayed impressive punches and offensive tactics, with the Colombian ultimately clinching the first round with a score of 3:2. PARINA struggled to maintain the pace, allowing the Colombian to lead the match and earning the favor of all five judges in the following two rounds, resulting in a 5:0 unanimous decision win.

The excitement continued in the following bout as the 2022 Asian Games bronze medalist Tomoya TSUBOI (JPN) left no chances for his opponent from Nepal, Chandra Bahadur THAPA. The Japanese boxer, demonstrating excellent footwork and attacking tactics, secured a commanding 5-0 victory.

The 2023 Pan American Games bronze medalist, Roscoe HILL (USA), lived up to expectations, dominating his bout against Trofimus JOHANNES of Namibia. Determined, agile, and powerful, the American boxer delivered a near-perfect performance, earning a unanimous decision win.

Cuban Alejandro CLARO showcased brilliant footwork along with incredible punches, securing a sharp 5-0 victory against Omid AHMADISAFA of the Boxing Refugee Team.

Men’s 92kg

John MARVIN of the Philippines proved too strong for Pouria AMIRI (IRI). In the first round, after two standing counts, the referee stopped the match, advancing MARVIN to the next round of the boxing tournament. It took less than three rounds for ODAI ALHINDAWI (JOR) to defeat Antonio RODRIGUES (POR). The 32-year-old from Jordan was too dominant, prompting the referee to stop the contest at 2:25 in round 3. 

Moments later, Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Loren Berto ALFONSO DOMINGUEZ from Azerbaijan showcased his dominance over Yan ZAK of Israel, claiming a 5:0 unanimous decision victory. Pro boxer from Ireland, Martin McDONAGH, impressed with an exceptional performance, securing five 10/9 scores from all five judges in all three rounds, sealing a commanding unanimous decision victory over YUSUF ACIK (TUR).

Men’s +92kg

The Italian Diego LENZI (ITA) entered the ring with a strong and attacking strategy against BAKYT TOKTOSUN UULU (KGZ). The 22-year-old LENZI impressed all judges with a display of impressive punches, defeating his rival from Kyrgyzstan via a 5:0 unanimous decision.

In the following match, 28-year-old Dusan VELETIC from Serbia scored a unanimous decision win over Jonas JAZEVICIUS (LTU). The Lithuanian boxer was unable to counter the quick punches launched by VELETIC as the Serbian won 5-0 via unanimous decision, convincing all the judges.

In Ring B, Greece’s STYLIANOS ROULIAS and Mexico’sJAVIER CRUZ put on an impressive show, lighting up the E-Work Arena with a display of powerful blows. The Greek and the Mexican boxer engaged in a thrilling split decision bout, with STYLIANOS ROULIAS securing a 4:1 win in the red corner, advancing in the brackets.

GHADFA DRISSI EL AISSAOUI AYOUB (ESP), LUKA PRATLJACIC (CRO), DANIS LATYPOV (BRN) and NELVIE RAMAN TIAFACK (GER) all advanced in the brackets.
