Day-4 Evening Session: Quarterfinal Brackets Take Shape in Women’s 54/60/66kg, and Men’s 51/80/92kg Categories

The evening session of Day 4 at the European Games Boxing Tournament in Nowy Targ, Poland, witnessed 24 intense bouts in the Round of 16 for the Women’s 54kg, 60kg, and 66kg, as well as the Men’s 51kg, 80kg, and 92kg categories, matches that shaped the tournament’s brackets for the forthcoming quarterfinals (see this news about today’s afternoon session for a complete overview).

In the Women’s 54kg division, Sandra Drabik of Poland delighted the home crowd by securing a 4-1 split decision victory over Armenia’s Ekaterina Sycheva. Drabik’s impressive performance earned her a place in the quarterfinals where she will face Lenuta Lacramio Perijoc from Romania, who won by unanimous decision against Georgia’s Ana Khunjua. Another standout performance came from Hatice Akbas of Turkie, who claimed an unanimous decision win over Hungary’s Hanna Lakotar. Akbas will advance to the quarterfinals to face Italy’s Sirine Charaabi, who outscored Croatia’s Nikolina Cacic by 5-0 points.

In the Women’s 60kg category, southpaw Hanna Okhrei from Ukraine emerged victorious with a 4-1 decision over Nayara Arroyo Rodriguez of Spain. Okhrei will now meet Turkie’s Gizem Ozer, who won by a 4-0 decision against Lithuania’s Ana Starovoitova. Croatia’s Sara Beram also secured her spot in the quarterfinals with a commanding 4-0 victory over Bulgaria’s Aslahan Sezgin Mehmedova. Beram will face Natalia Shadrina from Serbia, who outclassed Alessia Mesiano of Italy with a sharp 5-0 decision.

Continuing with the evening session, the Women’s 66kg bouts provided thrilling action. Ireland’s Amy Broadhurst secured her place in the quarterfinals with a unanimous decision win over Beatrise Rozentale from Latvia. On June 28Broadhurst will face Great Britain’s Rosie Joy Eccles, who outscored Assunta Canfora of Italy by 4-1 points. Another Polish athlete, Aneta Rygielska, advanced in the tournament with a hard-fought 4-1 split decision victory over Stefanie von Berge from Germany. Rygielska, supported by her enthusiastic home crowd, is set to face the highly anticipated Turkish boxer Busenaz Surmeneli, who defeated Paraskevi Mavrommati of Greece by referee stoppage.

In the Men’s 51kg category, Italy’s Federico Emilio Serra secured a place in the quarterfinals after a hard-fought match against Rudolf Garboyan from Armenia. Serra emerged victorious with a late surge in the third round. In the next round, Serra will face Hungary’s Attila Bernath, who dominated his preliminary bout against Masud Yusifzada from Azerbaijan. On ring B, Spain’s Molina Salvador shattered the hopes of Ireland’s Sean Mari with an impressive 5-0 performance, securing a place in the next phase of the tournament. Salvador will face Turkie’s Samet Gumus, who defeated Dmytro Zamotayev from Ukraine with a 3-1 decision.

In the Men’s 80kg category, Estonia’s Stiven Aas moved forward as his opponent, Daniel Ilyushonok from Israel, was disqualified 10 seconds into round 3. Aas will face Croatia’s Gabrijel Veocic, who secured a dominant 5-0 victory on points against Paul Andrei Aradoaie from Romania. Murad Allahverdiyev from Azerbaijan clinched a hard-fought 4-1 split decision win against Nikita Nystedt from Finland, earning a spot in the quarterfinals against Armenia’s Hambardzum Hakobyan, who outscored Serbia’s Vladimir Mironchikov by a narrow 3-2 margin.

Lastly, in the Men’s 92kg category, Poland’s Mateusz Bereznicki thrilled the home crowd with a narrow and hard-fought 3-2 victory over Hungary’s Levente Hunor Kiss. Bereznicki’s exceptional performance sets up an exciting quarterfinal clash with Israel’s Yan Zak, who secured a 4-1 victory over Andrei Zaplitnii from Moldova. Completing the quarterfinal brackets, Italy’s Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine and Turkie’s Berat Acar emerged victorious against Ukraine’s Arkadii Kartsan and Lewis Robert Williams from Great Britain, respectively, paving their way to face each other in the next round.
