Day 3 of the Boxing Tournament at Paris 2024 concluded in the evening with eight bouts scheduled across three weight classes: Women’s 60kg, Men’s 63.5kg, and Men’s +92kg.
In the Women’s 60kg division, 2023 Pan American Games silver medallist Angie Paola VALDES PANA (COL) won a thrilling 3:2 split decision against Donjeta SADIKU from Kosovo. In the following bout, seed #7 Ungyong WON was defeated by Chelsey HEIJNEN (NED). The 25-year-old from the Netherlands dominated the first two rounds, showcasing brilliant boxing skills. Although the 2023 Asian Games silver medallist WON fought back in the third round, earning the favor of all five judges, her effort was insufficient to secure victory. Heijnen’s next match is scheduled against Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Beatriz Iasmin SOARES FERREIRA (BRA), who outclassed Jajaira GONZALEZ from the United States, displaying superior tactics and aggression, and sealing a 5:0 unanimous decision win.
In the Men’s 63.5kg category, 2023 European Games silver medallist Lasha GURULI of Georgia achieved a landslide unanimous victory against Malik HASANOV of Azerbaijan. Guruli will face Bazarbay Uulu MUKHAMMEDSABYR (KAZ) next, who triumphed via a 3:2 split decision over 2023 Asian Games silver medallist LAI Chu En (TPE) in a closely contested bout.
Later in the session, Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Abner TEIXEIRA DA SILVA JUNIOR (BRA) faced Gerlon Gilmar CONGO CHALA (ECU) in an exhilarating Men’s +92kg bout. The 23-year-old from Ecuador started strong, earning four 10/9 scores from the judges. Despite the Brazilian’s comeback in the second and third rounds, taking a narrow 3:2 lead, the judges awarded CONGO CHALA the victory via a 3:2 split decision.
