Athletes Eligibility

To be eligible to participate in the Olympic Games Paris 2024, all athletes must meet the criteria listed in the Qualification System (see link at top of this page).

Sports Entries Process

NOCs are encouraged to work with their respective National Boxing Federations (NF) with regards to the Olympic qualification tournaments and competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. All entries for qualification tournaments require NOCs to confirm the technical and medical standard of the athletes. This way, if a National Federation has not recommended athletes to its respective NOC to be entered for the qualification tournaments and/or the Games themselves, the NOC is empowered to enter its athletes without the recommendation of the National Federation.

Paris 2024 Event Regulations

In line with the mandate from the IOC Executive Board of delivering the Olympic Boxing Qualifying Tournaments and the boxing competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit (PBU) has now published the “Event Regulations of the Olympic Boxing Qualifying Tournaments and the boxing competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024” (Paris 2024 Event Regulations).

Rules and regulations in place for Tokyo 2020 has been used as a baseline to minimise the impact on athletes’ preparation and guarantee consistency between Olympic Games.

For the avoidance of doubt, these regulations are applicable only to the competitions under the authority of the PBU, namely the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and its qualification tournaments.

The Event Regulations were updated in May 2024: Version 1.1 was approved by the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit and entered into force on 8 May 2024.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Seeding System

A seeding system will be implemented at the Boxing tournament of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, in order to separate top-qualified boxers in each weight category. Seeding positions will be allocated based on on-field results and a random draw, rather than a cumulative ranking system. The seeding system will rely on the results of the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit’s sanctioned continental qualifiers, with eight boxers being seeded in each of the 13 Olympic weight categories. Watch the linked video for a full explanation of the seeding system procedures.
