The boxing tournament in Paris continued with an electrifying evening session featuring eight preliminary matches in the Men’s 51kg, 71kg, and 92kg categories, as well as the Women’s 50kg and 66kg classes.
In the Men’s 71kg class, 23-year-old Tiago MUXANGA from Mozambique amazed everyone with an exceptional performance, securing a 4:1 victory over his opponent Magomed Elim Sultanovic SCHACHIDOV from Germany.
In the Men’s 92kg weight division, the #6 seed Keno Marley MACHADO from Brazil faced off against Patrick James BROWN from Great Britain in a fierce ring battle. The Brazilian dominated the first two rounds, and although the British athlete fought back in the third round, it wasn’t enough to secure victory. In the same weight class, Jack MARLEY from Ireland showcased his boxing skills and determination against Mateusz BEREZNICKI from Poland, earning a 4:1 on points victory and booking a spot in the next round.
The 2023 Asian Games gold medallist Davlat BOLTAEV from Tajikistan faced Georgii KUSHITASHVILI of Georgia. In a hard-fought contest, the #2 seed from Tajikistan landed impressive punches to take the lead, collecting five 10/9 scores from all the judges. In the following round, the Georgian boxer counterattacked brilliantly and turned the tide of the match in his favor. Both boxers gave their all in the third round, but BOLTAEV landed the decisive blows to clinch a 3:2 split decision victory.
In the Women’s 50kg event, Finland’s Pihla KAIVO-OJA was too strong for Margaret TEMBO of Zambia, clearing her preliminary bout with a commanding 5:0, earning a full scorecard as all judges awarded her each of the three rounds. Later in the evening, Aira VILLEGAS from the Philippines and Yasmine MOUTTAKI (MOR) engaged in a close battle. The Filipino boxer displayed strong punches and good boxing skills to earn five 10/9 scores from the judges in the first round. The Moroccan stepped up in the following round, edging it 3:2, but it wasn’t enough as VILLEGAS sealed a 5:0 unanimous decision win.
The 2023 Asian Games bronze medallist Nien Chin CHEN (TPE) celebrated her 4:1 victory in the Women’s 66kg round-of-32 bout against Maria Altagracia MORONTA HERNANDEZ from the Dominican Republic.
In the last bout of Day 2, Tokyo 2020 Olympian Alcinda Lucas dos SANTOS (MOZ) showcased her dominance against Jessica TRIEBELOVA of Slovakia. With impressive punching, Alcinda, cheered on by her team, outscored her rival with a 5:0 unanimous decision win.
The excitement continues at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, with twenty-four thrilling bouts spread across three sessions scheduled for tomorrow. The first session starts at 11:00, the second at 15:30, and the third at 20:00 (CET). Tomorrow’s matches will include the Women’s 60kg, Men’s 51kg, and Men’s 63.5kg, +92kg preliminary round-of-16 matches.
