The evening session of the Boxing Road to Paris 1st World Qualification Tournament’s Day 4 was the stage of the last Men’s 51kg, 92kg, and +92kg Round of 32 bouts of the tournament, deciding the lineup of the Round of 16 for those categories, which will take place on March 10, 7, and 9, respectively.
In the Men’s 51kg weight class session started off with an impressive performance of Rogen LADON (PHI), who stunned his opponent Said MORTAJI (MAR) amid round two, prompting the referee to stop the contest and award him the bout by KO. Up next, in the Round of 16 to be contested on March 10, he will meet RED Kiaran MACDONALD (GBR) – who cleared his match against Al Jaleel Ortega JOKHU (TTO) in less than two rounds – in what is set to be a fierce bout between two top athletes.
Theophilus ALLOTEY (GHA) beat Tashi WANGDI (BHU) with a clear 5:0 score, booking a spot in the Round of 16 where he will face Inkyu KIM (KOR), who eliminated David DE PINA (CPV) amid round 3, as the referee stopped the contest after a standing count.
Saken BIBOSSINOV (KAZ), Ramon Nicanor QUIROGA (ARG), Juanma LOPEZ DE JESUS (PUR), and Blue AZAT MAKHMETOV (BRN) will all join them in the Round of 16.
The Men’s 92kg event saw Ecuador’s Julio Cesar CASTILLO TORRES securing a victory against Serhii HORSKOV, from Ukraine, convincing all five judges to score a unanimous decision that propelled him ahead in the tournament. Up next, he will meet Bosnia-Herzegovina’s Dzemal BOSNJAK in the Round of 16, tomorrow. Daniel GUZMAN (DOM), Soheb BOUAFIA (FRA), Oralbay AIBEK (KAZ), Luis SANCHEZ LUIS (VEN), and Joseph KOSTUR (SVK) all cleared their preliminary bouts and will be up on the ring again tomorrow, March 7, for the Round of 16.
In the super-heavyweight class, the Men’s +92kg category, Norway’s Omar SHIHA claimed a unanimous decision win against Tajikistan’s Muhammad ABRORIDINOV, leading and controlling the bout from the first to the last round with apparent ease.
On March 9, he will step back on the E-Work Arena ring to compete in the category’s Round of 16 along with Iman RAMEZANPOURDELAVAR (IRI), Thomas Vianney MBOUA (CMR), Danabieke BAYIKEWUZI (CHN), Djamili-Dini ABOUDOU MOINDZE (FRA), Alexis BARRIERE (CAN), Congo Chala GERLON GILMAR (ECU), and Fernando ARZOLA (CUB), who all won their respective bouts today, advancing in the tournament.
